Katelyn Kirk: From Lumberton, TX to Taiwan

Katelyn is a senior theater and dance major who recently studied abroad in Taiwan because of her interest in living in another country and learning more about how dance fits in with the Taiwanese culture. In an exchange program between Lamar University and the Tainan Institute of Technology, students attended classes and spent time performing at each other’s university. Katelyn believes she and her fellow LU students formed a strong bond with the Taiwanese students when they came to the U.S. and enjoyed the connections they made with the students here and again in Taiwan.

Katelyn Kirk in TaiwanUpon graduation, Katelyn plans to gain as much experience as a performer as possible and due to her time studying abroad, she will audition for various cruise lines and travel while doing the dancing and musical theater that she loves. Eventually, she expects to obtain a master’s degree in dance, becoming a professor of dance at a university.

"The best thing that studying abroad did for me was opening my eyes to an entire world of dance beyond what I have learned in Beaumont, Texas," explains Katelyn. "It ignited my desire to create and I gained tons of experience from all of the different classes that we were able to take."
